Biographical Necessities
Name: James Evan Wilson (‘JEW’…heh.)
Age: 39
Physical Appearance: At 5’11, Wilson is of moderate height for his gender, though still shorter than House when he decides to not slouch. Wilson has warm, brown eyes that can be used in a ‘I’m going to cry’/puppy-dog face to manipulate others. He isn’t as slim as he used to be (oh…two marriages ago?), instead showing his age in a very normal almost-forty bit of belly. Wilson isn’t too sensitive about his weight but can get severely annoyed when certain other doctors tease him for it. He has small scars here and there, but nothing to rival House’s more severe ones. Wilson is also left handed.
Education: Wilson graduated in the top 5% of his high school class and headed on to NYU for his undergraduate pre-med. He again finished at the top of his class and then went on to McGill for medical school.
Occupation: Medical doctor, specializing in oncology. Previously the head of the oncology department at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.
Significant Other: House (right?)
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Character Biography
James grew up in Clifton, New Jersey with his happily married parents and two other brothers, Michael and Sean. He got along best with Michael, two years his senior. He had a happy childhood for the most part, with all the scrapes and bruises that come with being a kid. When James ‘Jimmy’ was fourteen, his brother Michael ran away. His father was angry and his mother upset. James knew a few things about the incident that he never told them, a guilt that he still harbors. Michael had a problem with drugs and James never said anything; he always thought his brother was too ‘cool’ to get into any real trouble.
James went on to college, picking up various girlfriends along the way and in one case was seduced by an older male roommate. It was New York in the early 80s, Wilson didn’t think much of this ‘experimentation’. It continued on in secret until the roommate graduated and they parted ways. While in med school at McGill, James met his first wife and decided to put men aside for good. He married Maggie after he graduated and they moved to New York, where he did his residency. While in New York, James worked with a doctor who reminded him of his college roommate and they had a brief affair, abruptly ending his first marriage.
Afterwards, James received a job at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and settled back into New Jersey. It was there that he met Dr. House. For the first couple of years, Wilson saw him as every other doctor did. House was acerbic, rude, manipulative, and constantly breaking the rules. He spent those first years kindling a relationship with Helena, his second wife. One weekend while she was out of town, Stacy invited Wilson to dinner in the hopes of coercing House into making friends. Wilson by chance of good fortune sat down at the piano while the others were in the kitchen and played what he knew of a Miles Davis piece that drew House into the living room. A joke was cracked and the rest was history.
Then there was the infarction, Stacy left, and Wilson was drawn deeper into the insanity of House’s life and mind. He started spending more time with House than Helena. His second marriage was soon in the gutter.
Wilson received a promotion and became the Head of the Department of Oncology and soon met Julie, his future third wife. Despite House’s advice against it, Wilson married Julie.
The Mental Facts
Personality in seven words or less: Caring, clever, deceptive, cheerful, clean-freak, friendly, needy
How Others Perceive Your Character: A friendly and caring doctor who is always willing to help. He can be deceptively nice. Others do not see the darker side and the slightly more manipulative side of Wilson.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: Officially his religion is Judaism, though his more so Jewish by culture than belief and conviction. He believes in truth and the inherent good in others. House has instilled the conviction that ‘Everyone Lies’, though Wilson still tries to see the good in people. Wilson has a deceptive side than proves House’s conviction that ‘Everyone lies’, though he likes to believe that he is manipulative for the good of others and never deceptive for the sake of being such. He has a strong moral fiber and always tries to do the right thing, though what is ‘right’ is not necessarily what others might perceive as being ‘right’.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: House some what dragged him to Canada. After House was shot, Wilson agreed to leave behind his oncology practice at Princeton-Plainsboro. They moved to Canada and legally married, which Wilson could never regret. They opened up a private practice in their home and he must admit that it is nice to have a slower pace of life that doesn’t involve clinic duty.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: Wilson secretly dreams of having a child, which he is pretty sure that House does not want. So, he keeps this aspiration hidden from his husband. He hopes to have a successful practice and to live a happy and successful life in Canada.
